one persons trash equals another persons...art project

I ended up compromising between my ideas and projected onto objects I found around my house that I painted white. Everything from wine bottles, to Styrofoam to silly string. Some of the objects are not fully covered in paint but with the projection on it you can't even tell. I plan on continuing the project by adding things to make it much bigger. The visuals I used are by Formom Productions and the song is DJ Shadow Fixed Income. To improve on this I plan on adding to the structure and making my own video to display on the objects. Here it is so far...

Project #2

For the next project I want to play with projecting images onto objects. I am thinking about setting up different toys and projecting across them to make shadows on the image on the screen behind. The image I'm thinking of is a time lapse of a city that I will create myself. I will have some of them hanging and the rest scattered about the floor or the table that I use for my project. My brother has a lot of dinosaurs and other things from our childhood that I think would be fun to use. I think I'm also just going to play with mirrors and light to project shadows onto the walls maybe instead of using a projected image.

The more I think about this project and research videos online I also think it would be cool to project images onto a sculpture or onto different white objects making an abstract composition. I was really inspired by a performance I saw recently by an artist called Phadroid. He projected images onto a girl covered in a white sheet. As she danced the images followed her.

My Project so far...

After looking through the video clips from our night of hula hoops, I was really happy with the way they turned out. I have a lot of clips to go through and am in the process of putting together several different videos that I will experiment with ways of displaying them using a projector. So far this is the first thing I have created for this project. The music is by Human Agency and I felt like it went perfect with the video.

The Art of Projection

We are starting a project where we have the freedom to do just about anything we want. It can be a performance, a film, or an installation that somehow involves projectors. There are many artists that use projected images as part of their work. As for the ones we looked at in class I was really drawn to Pipilotti Rist's Ever is Over All. I really liked how she used two projectors making the images overlap. Another piece that I really liked was Sarah Pucill's You Be Mother, because I liked how she projected onto objects rather than a flat screen. For my project I want to film my friends and I hula hooping with LED and Fire Hoops. I want to get a bunch of different shots and then play around with how I will project them. I am thinking about trying different things with mirrors, glass and objects or shapes of some kind. Another video that I like is by a musician Amon Tobin where he has different lights and images projected onto boxes on the stage.

Guest Lecture PIO activity

I felt like the Public Information Officer activity we did in class was interesting but I don't necessarily think it needs to be so structured. It was hard for us to relate when we don't know how PIO's actually respond to things like this and they probably deal with it so much they would react differently than we do. If you have certain questions you want to ask them, you can outline the meeting with those questions but don't necessarily need each person to pick a card. Also after picking the card I felt like I was supposed to answer the question rather than having it open for discussion.

One thing that I think the PIO's could benefit from is getting involved with social media. They should have an official facebook/twitter/blog/newsletter that gives important information on whats going on in the community, especially when disaster hits. If people knew there was a legitimate site that was post up to date information about a crisis as it is happening would be incredibly helpful. They could have one person dedicated to updating their website/facebook/twitter and sending newsletters and if advertised correctly people would know where to turn when a crisis hits.
